Once FlexFTP is configured and connected to one or more FTP sites, there are various ways to transfer files and folders using all the standard Windows file/folder selection methods, such as Ctrl to select/deselect multiple individual items, Shift to select a group of items, Ctrl+A to select all items, etc.

Drag-and-drop Between Local Computer and a Site

After selecting one or more folders and/or files in the Local Computer site, drag to any other connected site and drop to the appropriate location to upload. Or, select one or more folders and/or files in any FTP site, drag to the Local Computer site and drop to the appropriate location to download.

Drag-and-drop Between Two Sites

Perform a site-to-site transfer by selecting one or more folders and/or files in any connected site, drag to any other connected site and drop to the appropriate location to upload/download.

Drag-and-drop from Windows File Explorer to a Site

Files and/or folders can also be dragged from a Windows File Explorer window and dropped to a specific location in a connected site.

Move To/Copy To Ribbon Buttons

Utilize the Move To and Copy To buttons from the Organize group found on the Home ribbon tab to move or copy selected items.

Double-Click

When enabled in Workspace Settings, a file can be double-clicked to initiate a file transfer. How this behaves is determined by the Default Transfer Behavior setting in Workspace Settings, and may result in an error to indicate that the location to transfer the file cannot be determined. Pressing the Enter key on the keyboard can also be used to transfer selected items.

Target File(s) Already Exist

During any file transfer operation, if the target file already exists, a dialog is displayed prompting the user to choose an action to perform, with file details for both the source and target:

Apply the same action to the current queue for the same target site

Enable this option to perform the selected action for each item. Otherwise, leave unchecked to get prompted for each individual item.

Overwrite

Replaces the file(s) in the destination with the file(s) from the source.

Resume

If the transfer of a file was previously interrupted or canceled, choose Resume to continue where it left off.

Rename

Prompts the user to type in a new name for the file(s) in the target location, keeping the original file.

Skip

Do not transfer the source file(s) to the target location.

Notes

  • Drag-and-drop within the same site will always perform a move. When using Copy To from the ribbon or right-click menu, the active site will not be listed as one of the available destinations, but it will be listed for Move To.

  • When performing a Move To operation, the selected folder or any descendant folders may not be selected and will not be listed.
